TORBEN SNEKKESTAD - WINDS OF MOUTH (ILK250LP)

An album composed by editing a series of improvisations - multi-tracking of his instrumental arsenal of soprano and tenor saxophone, reed trumpet, slide trumpet and clarinet.

TORBEN SNEKKESTAD - PLATEAU (ILK251LP)

Soprano and tenor saxophones excursions, mainly in the idiom of free improvisation.

TORBEN SNEKKESTAD - THE REED TRUMPET (ILK252LP)

Solo improvisations using a hybrid instrument with a single reed mouth- piece attached to a trumpet, originally invented by Eddie Harris in the 1970s. Snekkestad has however built a new mouthpiece himself and utilizes a unique music for it on the first full-length album with this instrument ever. (released in 100 vinyl copies only ( w/ handwritten covers) on ILK’s WhiteLabel)

Reviews:

"The title track opens with what sounds like an animal's horn, then a response from various woodlands creatures. Without visuals, there is no way to grasp how these sounds are created. He can sound like an entire steampunk invention from the 19th century. Switches and valves powered by the steam of his breath create a neo-noir soundtrack for an imaginary movie." (All About Jazz)

"The range of sounds this musician gets from all his instruments – he also plays slide trumpet, clarinet and water bowl on Winds Of Mouth – is quite mind-boggling. But what he does is not simply clever. His attention to sound in space, to nuance of timbre, to level of attack and decay within each note, to control and expression of overtones, and to the overall arc of often fairly abstract pieces of music, shows a a musician deeply dedicated to, and engaged with, his art." (thejazzbreakfast)

(Bad Alchemy)
